Last Thursday, the Kuboid team attended the Regional Member’s Networking Dinner at JOAN in Shoreditch, an event organised by The Self Storage Association UK.

As always, the evening was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with friends and customers over a three-course meal as we shared our recent experiences and knowledge within the fast-growing industry at the trendy restaurant in the East End of London.

The evening kickstarted with drinks on arrival, and after enjoying our starters, we listened to an important and insightful presentation given by the CEO of the Self Storage Association UK, Rennie Schafer, who discussed the current state of affairs within the industry.

The UK economy has fallen into recession

Last week, The Bank of England warned that the U.K. is headed for its longest recession since records began a century ago, which will impact every single person in some way. With this news in mind, attendees were all eager to listen to Rennie’s updates on the current state of the industry, which has proven to be resilient in the past, addressing any pressing concerns and questions.

Rennie gave us an insightful presentation and an overall positive round-up. He emphasised that although there are some concerns due to the housing market, the War in Ukraine, and the rise in the cost of living

“Self storage isn’t like a gym membership, individuals will continue to need to store their belongings.”

Rennie also expressed that although the industry may slow down coming up to Christmas, his overall outlook remained positive for 2023.

As always, it was nice to catch up with friends and colleagues, and thank you to the Self Storage Association UK for arranging the networking event. We’ll be looking forward to the next event date on Wednesday, 25th January 2023 in Glasgow.
