Last week we travelled to Squab Storage in Leamington Spa for the Young Storage Network meeting, the first in-person gathering since June 2019, which members travelled around the country to attend.
Governed by its own board, the YSN is an official working group of the Self Storage Association UK that encourages the growth of young people within the industry.
The network’s mission is to provide regular training programmes whilst engaging members through personal and online methods.
The meet-up was Kuboid’s first attendance, and we were certainly not disappointed. With refreshments and cakes on arrival, Emlyn Evans, Director of Squab Storage started the day by welcoming us to the facility and sharing its fascinating history.
We listened to Paul Whittaker, previous chair member of YSN, and director of SureStore Storage and Flexiss Group who shared his knowledge and experience within the sector, highly valuable to all self storage operators.
Anthony Hebblethwaite, Sales Manager of Doncaster Security Operations Centre and winner of the FEDESSA Annual Industry Innovation Award 2022, shared his experience within the industry thus far and discussed what operators can do to overcome crime and improve their day-to-day security.
Breaking Self Storage ‘norms’
Once all presentations had finished, although it was a cold autumn afternoon (thankfully not raining!), we enjoyed an outdoor and indoor facility tour of Squab, where we were lucky enough to see ‘Swim in a Tin’ – a swimming pool in a container! You cannot deny that Squab Storage are breaking the self storage ‘norms’ with its vast facility.
Thank you YSN
We would like to thank the YSN board for organising the networking event, we really enjoyed catching up with everyone and we’re already looking forward to discovering what the next one has in store.
