Last week, Kuboid hosted a networking day at the famous Belfry Golf Resort. Recognised by the PGA as a world-class tournament course, the venue has previously hosted the Ryder Cup more than any other venue in the world and has challenged some of golf’s greatest players.

We partnered with the market leader for regional digital business news – The Business Desk, who helped us connect with and invite leaders from the corporate finance and investment community, including KPMG, one of the largest accounting firms in the world and DLA Piper – a global law firm.

Our mission for the event was to educate our guests and share our industry knowledge

The day started promptly at 8am and guests were able to meet in the Ryder room for breakfast and coffee. CEO, Andy O’Dell, and Finance Director, Rakesh Rajani, kickstarted the day with an introduction about Kuboid. Both also shared a short speech about the history and current growth of the self storage industry.

Rakesh explained that the UK self storage industry is set to exceed £1 billion in turnover in 2023 and will once again outperform other sectors such as real estate (See report). Recent industry activity was also shared with the guests, specifically, one of the largest investment managers in the world. Nuveen Real Estate, acquired a Kuboid customer, Easistore, on behalf of its European Value Add Strategy.

Andy concluded the speech with several further reasons as to why now is the best time to invest in self storage. He explained that the UK self storage industry has been influenced by the United States which already has a well-established market and has plenty of headroom for further growth. Activity across the rest of Europe is expected to gather further momentum also.

A great day for investors

“The guests were very receptive to our opening speech. I think it proved the recent statistic shared by the Self Storage Association UK that 51% of the general public have a good awareness about self storage and this was reflected by the audience in the room. It shows that there is still a huge amount of growth for the industry.”

Andy O’Dell, CEO at Kuboid

After the opening speech, guests dispersed into their groups. We were also fortunate enough for the sun to make an appearance! The day of golf was followed by some dinner and drinks which was a fantastic opportunity for the diverse group of individuals to build relationships.

“Thank you for a brilliant event, it was great to hear about Kuboid and the wider sector. The day was a really useful insight into the market and it was fantastic to make some great new connections.”

Rees Herrod, Senior Associate at Wright Hassall LLP

“ I thoroughly enjoyed the Kuboid Golf Day and came away having met some useful contacts in the self storage industry. Whilst the sector is growing quickly with a lot of new entrants, it is clear there is still exponential growth to come.

– Jeremy, Director at Paloma Capital

“It was a great event and a fantastic opportunity to learn about the storage industry which wasn’t one I knew much about going into the day. It’s an exciting industry that is experiencing a lot of growth in the UK and Europe. It is a market we’ll be keeping an eye on going forward. Thanks again to Kuboid and Business Desk for having me along.”

– Callum Shields, Associate Director of Corporate Finance at KPMG
